Mr. Kemp was 45 on November 12th one day before his death.

Mr. Kemp was delivering lumber for Woodard Bros. at Defeated Creek where he had worked summers and weekends since he was a teenager.
The Jackson County E-911 received a call at 11:18 a.m. Saturday morning that a man was trapped between a tow motor and a truck at 1690 East Fork Road. Mr. Kemp was pronounced dead at the scene.
Funeral services were conducted from the Hackett Chapel of Sanderson Funeral Home on Tuesday afternoon at 3 p.m. Bro. Jimmy Gregory and Bro. Steve Waller officiated at the services. Burial followed in the Defeated Creek Memorial Gardens with Bro. Frank Bratcher officiating.
The son of Roger Dale Kemp, a Defeated Creek native and Martha Kay Conditt Kemp a South Carthage native, he was born Joey Dale Kemp at McFarland Hospital in Lebanon on November 12, 1965
On June 10, 1988 at the Peyton Creek Baptist Church he was united in marriage to his childhood sweetheart Lisa Renee’ Wilmore of Tanglewood. They had dated since their junior year at Smith County High School and were married a week after college graduation.
Mr. Kemp was the salutatorian of the 1984 graduating class at Smith County High School.
He then attended Tennessee Technological University in Cookeville where he graduated in June of 1988 with a 4.0 average and a Bachelors in Secondary Education.
In the fall of 1988 he began his teaching career at Defeated Creek Elementary School where he taught 4th and 6th grades and at the time of his death was a team teacher for the 7th and 8th grades.
Mr. Kemp later received his Master’s at Trevecca in Nashville.
An active member of the Kempville Old Time Methodist Church, he was serving as the adult class Sunday school teacher at the time of his death and had held various other church offices.
Mr. Kemp was the grandson of the late Rogers and Kathleen Putnam Conditt of South Carthage and the late Ester and Osa Dillehay Kemp of Defeated Creek.
Surviving in addition to his wife of twenty two years and his parents are two children, Kayla Renee’ Kemp and Justin Dale Jackson Kemp both of Defeated Creek; brother, Steven Kemp and wife Lucette and their son Adam of Kempville; father-in-law, Bobby Wilmore of Tanglewood; mother-in-law, Dean Roberts Bailey of Algood; brother-in-law, Bob Wilmore of Franklin, TN.
The Kemp family requests memorials to Kempville Old Time Methodist Church.
