Tigerettes Win 2 in Coaches vs. Cancer Classic at Livingston Academy
Coaches vs. Cancer is a nationwide collaboration between the American Cancer Society and the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) that empowers basketball coaches, their teams, and local communities to make a difference in the fight against cancer.
Coaches vs. Cancer evolved from a concept championed by Norm Stewart, former head coach of the University of Missouri men’s basketball program, cancer survivor, and member of the National Association of Basketball Coaches. He started the program by challenging fans to pledge a dollar amount for every three points made by his team during the season. The American Cancer Society and the NABC adopted that concept in 1993 and transformed it into a nation-wide effort to unite coaches across the country in the common mission to provide help and hope to all people facing cancer.
Today, high school and Division I, II, and III college coaches across the country are involved in the program.
Coaches vs. Cancer has raised more than $50 million since its inception to support the American Cancer Society’s work to save lives from cancer.
Because cancer has touched so many of our nation’s basketball coaches, Coaches vs. Cancer offers them a unique opportunity to fight the disease.
One dollar from every ticket sale was donated to the American Cancer Society, during the Coaches vs. Cancer Classic at Livingston Academy, held on November 26-27th, in which Coach Jeff Beam’s Macon County High School Tigerettes were happy to participate in.

The Macon County High School Tigerettes traveled to Livingston Academy over the Thanksgiving Holiday Weekend, to participate in the Coaches vs. Cancer Classic, November 26-27th.
The Tigerettes were paired with Greeneville High School for their first challenge in the event, which proved to be a great game for the attending crowd, as an overtime period was enforced to determine the winner.
Macon County led the opening quarter 17-16, and continued with their lead by a score of 28-24 going into halftime.
The Greeneville opponent jumped ahead of the Tigerettes in the third period by a score of 39-37, and before the
fourth quarter buzzer sounded, the game was knotted at 47 each.
The Tigerettes was able to outplay Greeneville 9-6 in the last round, to claim their fourth victory of the season by a final score of 56-53.
The Tigerettes were led by Calamity Jane Coley, Sarah Belton, and Kailyn Brooks with 12 points each, followed by Katie Reid with eight points, Kelsey Gregory with seven points, and Katelyn Bean with five points.
On November 27th, the Tigerettes faced the girls from Tennessee High School and was able to notch their fifth consecutive win to their belt.
The THS opponent led the opening round 14-11, and continued through halftime 20-19.
Macon County returned in the third quarter to add nine points above THS, eventually winning the game by a final score of 63-56.
Kelsey Gregory led the Tigerettes to victory with 24 points followed by Katelyn Bean with 19 points, Kailyn Brooks with 12 points, Katie B. Meador with four points, Terra Pryor with three points, and Katie Reid with one point.
