Takes two days to decide softball champion

The Macon County High School Tigerette softball team had to play for two days to determine the regular season championship. They fought it out with Watertown.

On Tuesday Apr 28th the Tigerettes had Senior Day scheduled. Emma Farley, Katie Jo Shockley, and Ryleigh Coley were recognized in a ceremony before the game along with their parents. We wish these young ladies all the success in their future endeavors.

The game started slow, but Watertown struck first with one run in the top of the third inning. The Tigerettes would come right back and score two in the bottom of the third to take a 2-1 lead.

Watertown then would score one run in the top of the fourth to tie the game. In the top of the fifth with runners on first and second and two outs, Watertown looked like they were prepared to take the lead. Then play was suspended.

Macon County would get a thunderstorm and some much-needed rain, much to the chagrin of the Purple Tigers. The rain would postpone the game to Thursday as the game would have to be decided to determine district tournament post-season seeding.

Play resumed on Thursday Apr 30 in Lafayette just where it left off. Macon then proceeded to get a fly out and turn a double play, with the third out recorded at home plate, to end the scoring threat.

The Tigerettes would manage to plate one run in the bottom of the sixth inning to retake the lead 3-2 heading into the final frame. With two outs and runners on first and second, the Tigerettes would give up three hits to Watertown and four runs. Watertown wins the regular season championship and the game by a final score of 6-3.

Kayli Aulick threw a good game. She pitched five innings, scattering eight hits and gave up two earned runs. Kaylen Moore came on in relief and threw two hits and gave up four earned runs with three strikeouts. Katie Jo Shockley, Sierra Troutt, Jazzlyn Centers, Ryleigh Coley, Camryn McConnell, and Aulick all recorded one hit each with Anniston Tirjan getting two.

The Tigerettes will finish second in the regular season standings and will move on to the post season tournament this week. They are scheduled to play on Monday May 4th in Watertown against DeKalb County in the double elimination District 8-3A tournament.
