Macon wins District 8-3A Tournament
The Macon County Tigers won the district 8-3A Tournament last week in Watertown. They entered the week as the #2 seed.
Macon began play on Thursday Apr 30 against Central Magnet. With the game tied 1-1 Macon would plate one run in the bottom of the fourth and two in the fifth to take a 4-1 lead.
Central Magnet would not go quietly, aided by some Macon errors, and they tied the game in the sixth at 4-4. Macon would rally with four runs in the bottom of the sixth and go on to win the game by a final score of 7-4.
Eli Carver threw a great game. He went six innings and gave up five hits, one earned run, and recorded twelve strikeouts. Gunner Carlisle got the save by pitching one inning allowing one hit.
Hayden Dean had a wonderful day at the plate. He went 4 for 4 with an RBI on a solo home run. Emmerson McClard, Gage Jones, and Matthew Wheeley each had a hit and an RBI while Jake Meador and Carver had one hit as well.
Macon will now move on to the district championship on Friday May 1 against DeKalb County. Macon broke this game open with four runs in the bottom of the second inning and never looked back. They would go on to claim the championship with a 5-0 win.
Matthew Wheeley would get the win with a complete game shutout. He went the distance and gave up only three hits and tally five strikeouts. Meador had two hits and two RBIs while Carver had two hits and two runs scored. Ty Bilbrey, Carson Brawner, and McClard had one hit apiece.
With the championship the Tigers will now host the Region 4AAA tournament in Lafayette. Macon will play on Friday May 8th at 7 pm against Livingston Academy. Macon split a pair of games in the season opening series back in March.
