Jr. Tigerettes Defeat Springfield in 1st Round of TNT

The Macon County Junior High School Tigerette Basketball team traveled to Springfield on February 5, 2011, to begin 2011 TNT State Tournament play.

They were paired against Dekalb County for their opening game and came out in full force against their opponent.
The Macon County defens prevented Dekalb County from even marking the scoreboard in the first half of the game, while adding 24 points to their lead.

In the third quarter, Dekalb returned to record 21 points, however Macon County kept a 35-21 lead. The Tigerettes added 15 points in the final round, allowing Dekalb ten, for a 50-31 victory.

Leah Anderson led the team with 19 points, followed by Emilee Harris with 10 points, Reese Shrum with nine points, Briley Driver and Abi Welch with three points each, Marissa Owens with two points, and Logan Hernandez and Kassidy Brooks with one point each.

The Jr. Tigerettes advanced to the semi-final round on February 12 against Livingston.

MCJHS Tigerettes Advance to TNT Finals

The Macon County Jr. High Tigerettes advanced to the finals of the TNT State Invitational Tournament in Springfield with a victory over the previously unbeaten Livingston Tigers. The win also runs their record to 19-0 for the season.

In the first period, the girls came out a little tight. No one from either side wanted to break away. However by the time the period ended, Macon led 8 to 5 over Livingston.

The Tigerettes tried to pull away at the start of the 2nd quarter. Driver made a steal and a break-a-way lay up followed by a great assist from Harris to Anderson and the lead ballooned to 14-5 mid way in the period. To the credit of the Lady Tigers, they battled back to cut the score to Macon 17 Livingston 12 at the half.

In the 3rd, the Macon Tigers managed to hold on to the lead. Significant minutes by Belton and strong game management by Owens and Shrum were the keys to this section of the contest. At the end of the 3rd the score was Macon Co. 25 and Livingston 18.

In the final period the Tigerettes held on for the win. Livingston had no answer for the tandem of Harris and Anderson early. However the Lady Tigers battled back and cut the lead to 5 late in the game.  However two steals by Macon late in the contest sealed the victory. Final Score Macon 35 Livingston 26.

Scoring were Driver 2 pts, Shrum 9 pts, Owens 4 pts, Anderson 11 pts, and Harris 9 pts. Belton played but did not score. The Jr. High Tigerettes play in the finals of the TNT State Tournament this Saturday night.

RBS Jr. High School Bulldogs Advance to TNT Semi-Finals

The Red Boiling Springs Jr. High Bulldogs played St. Henry in their first round of the TNT State Tournament on February 12, 2011.
The Bulldogs never trailed while playing against the Tigers, however the game saw several ties in the second quarter. The Bulldogs were up 29-18 at the end of the third period. Red Boiling Springs stood firm in the last quarter, defeating St. Henry 37-28 at the end of regulation.

Zane Roberts led the Bulldogs with 14 points and four-3-pt shots, followed by Alex Mullinix with eight points, Dallas Greanead and Nick Deckard with six points each, and Skyler Holden with three points.

With the win, RBS will now advance to the semi-final game against Debrail from Warren County on Friday, February 18, 2011 around 4 p.m.

RBS stands at 18-4 for the 2010/2011 season.
