Local High School Basketball District Tournament Action

RBS Bulldogs
The #3 seeded Bulldogs (17-13) was routed to the consolation bracket after being defeated by #5 seeded Gordonsville (8-19) in the first round of District 8A Tournament play, with a final score of 44-42.
On February 18, the Red Boiling Springs High School Bulldogs competed in the first round of the District 8A Tournament at Gordonsville High School against the hosting Tigers.
The outcome of this game was interesting as the two earlier matches between these two teams this season, held one win/loss by the hands of the other team.
Opening the game, Gordonsville led 12-6, and by the halftime break, the Bulldogs were trailing 24-17.
The Tigers carried their advantage throughout the third quarter, (38-28), however the Bulldogs came alive in the final period, out scoring the Tigers 14-6, yet falling short two points by the final buzzer. Red Boiling Springs 42, Gordonsville 44.
Wes Grace led the Bulldogs with 18 points, followed by Jordan Meador with six points, Andrew Mullinix with six points, Shelton Watson with six points, Jordan Grace with four points, and Aaron Francis with two points.
The Bulldogs will now face Watertown for third place in the District 8A Tournament on Tuesday, February 22 at 6 p.m.

RBS Lady Bulldogs
The #1 seeded Lady Bulldogs improved their record to 27-4 after defeating #5 seeded Gordonsville (9-19) in the first round of District 8A Tournament play, with a final score of 56-47.
On February 17, the Red Boiling Springs High School Lady Bulldogs competed in the first round of the District 8A Tournament at Gordonsville High School against the hosting Lady Tigers.
RBS led the opening quarter 11-6, and by the halftime break, Gordonsville was still trailing 23-18. The Lady Bulldogs out-scored the Lady Tigers 13-9 in the third quarter. Each team put in 20 points during the last quarter, however the RBS Lady Dawgs were able to claim the victory with a final score of 56-47.
Lady Bulldog senior Layce Colter was still able to lead the team to victory with a total of 20 points, followed by senior Heather Jenkins with 13 points, and senior Mackenzie Painter with five points. Morgan Burgener also recorded 13 points in the victory, followed by Marina Evans with three points, and Kalisha Lynch with two points.
The Lady Bulldogs will now advance to the championship game on Monday, February 21, 2011 against Friendship Christian.
RBS claimed a close win over FC (65-60) on February 1, 2011.

MCHS Tigers
The #2 seeded Tigers (19-9) was routed to the consolation bracket after being defeated by #3 seeded White House (16-9) in the first round of District 9AA Tournament play, with a final score of 43-37.
On February 19, the Macon County High School Tigers competed in the first round of the District 9AA Tournament at Vol-State College against White House.
The Blue Devils were trying to avenge the two losses suffered at the hands of the Tigers earlier this season, so they picked up the intensity from tip off.
White House led 13-9 after the first quarter of play, however the Tigers returned before the halftime break to force a 20-way tie.
The Blue Devils out scored the Tigers by two points in the third quarter (11-9), and stepped up their defensive/offensive game to claim a 43-37 victory over Macon County.
Zack Billenstein led the Tigers with eight points, followed by Dallas Grace and Trey McPherson with seven points each, Tyler Manning and Mic Wise with five points each, Shawn Kemp with three points, and Andrew Kempf with two points.
The Tigers will now face Westmoreland for third place in the District 9AA Tournament on Tuesday, February 22 at 6 p.m.

MCHS Tigerettes
The #1 seeded Tigerettes improved their record to 24-2 after defeating Goodpasture (12-13) in the first round of District 9AA Tournament play, with a final score of 62-46.
On February 19, the Macon County High School Tigerettes competed in the first round of the District 9AA Tournament at Vol-State College against the Lady Cougars of Goodpasture.
Macon County led the opening quarter 21-16, and by the halftime break, the Lady Cougars were left trailing 32-26.
The Tigerettes continued to out score Goodpasture in the last two rounds of play (15-8 in the third quarter, and 15-12 in the fourth), to claim a 62-46 victory at the final buzzer.
Kailyn Brooks led the Tigerettes with 16 points, followed by Kaitlyn Bean with 11 points, Katie Reid with 10 points, Haley Harris with eight points, Kelsey Gregory with seven points, Terra Pryor with five points, Katie Beth Meador with three points, and Calamity Jane Coley with two points.
The Tigerettes will now face the Lady War Eagles of Sycamore in the Championship game of the District 9AA Tournament, on Monday, February 21, 2011.
MCHS claimed a close three-point win (74-71) over Sycamore on February 4, 2011.
