Bertha Lee Carter Copas, age 78, of the Hermitage Springs Community in Clay County, TN passed away Wednesday morning, May 11, 2011 at the Saint Thomas Hospital in Nashville, TN. Funeral Services for Bertha Lee Carter Copas were conducted Saturday morning, May 14, 2011 at 11 a.m. from the Anderson & Son Funeral Home Chapel in Red Boiling Springs, TN with Jimmy Cook officiating.
Interment followed in the Hermitage Springs Cemetery. Avery Johnson, Tim Copas, Jim Newman, John Newman, Jamie Carter, Michael Price, Bobby Price and Danny Carter served as pallbearers. Bertha Lee was born Friday October 21, 1932 in Clay County, Tennessee, one of seven siblings of the late Grover Cleveland and Edna Jewell (Wilson) Carter. On July 6, 1948, she was married Mitchell Copas, who survives. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her daughter, Virginia Carlson, grandson, Todd Carlson, sisters, Ruth Clements, Ann Russell and Reba Newman, brothers, Frank and Lewis Carter. Bertha Lee was employed with the former Haywood Mfg. in Gamaliel, KY with 28 years of service and a homemaker. She was a member of the Church of Christ. Survivors besides her husband Mitchell of 62 years include: daughter & son-in-law, Kathryn & Roger Langford of Red Boiling Springs, TN, sons & daughters-in-law, Jerry & Pam Copas of Smyrna, TN, Bradley & Melissa Copas of Moss, TN, son-in-law, Daniel Carlson of Lakeworth, FL, sister, Jewell Price of Taylorville, IL, 8 grandchildren, 2 step-grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren and 2 step-great-grandchildren.
