Fred Hastings, 76

Mr. Fred Hastings, age 76 of the Gladdice Community, died at 6:54 p.m. Monday evening, May 30, 2011 at the Cookeville Regional Medical Center after suffering a heart attack while flying his ultra-light aircraft. Memorial services will be conducted from the Hackett Chapel of Sanderson Funeral Home at 10 a.m. Saturday morning, June 11th.  Visitation with the family will be at the Sanderson in Kempville from 9 a.m. until service time at 10 a.m.

 A reception with the family will follow at the Gladdice Community Center. Born in Jackson County on May 9, 1935, he was one of two sons of Hubert Stanford Hastings who died on May 10, 1971 and Kate Morris Howell Hastings who died on January 27, 2002. His only brother, Joe Anderson Hastings, preceded him in death on December 22, 1969. Mr. Hastings was a veteran of the United States Army during the Korean era. He was a television and electronics repairman. After being paralyzed in an accident as an adult, Mr. Hastings never let his injury slow him down, continuing to fly his own aircraft and ride cycles with his friends. Surviving are two nieces, Susan Hastings of Plain, WA and Rhonda Allison of Cookeville; a great-nephew, Bryan Allison of Cookeville; sister-in-law, Louise Hastings Rudolph of Cookeville. Memorials were requested to the American Heart Association or the Disabled American Veterans.
