RBS Thrash Pickett Co. in Season Opener
By: Misty Green
Football fans came to the Red & Grey grid iron of Red
Boiling Springs this past Friday night to see if this year’s team could
continue adding victories to the history books. Since the seven-year curse of
61 consecutive losses was shattered three seasons ago, the Bulldogs were eager
to face their first opponent on their schedule… the Bobcats of Pickett
County.
Red Boiling Springs’ dynamic Dickens duo (Quarterback Cody
Dickens and Fullback Dakota Dickens) pressed hard on the Bobcats with quick and
precise ball handling from Cody and powerful blocking maneuvers of Dakota.
Along with many others in the Bulldog pack stepping up to the line, RBS was
able to get on the board early in this contest, and before the halftime break,
the Bulldogs were up 34-0 over Pickett County.
RBS forced Pickett County to punt shortly after opening the
third quarter, which then resulted in a touchdown scored by Bulldog Chase
Carter. RBS 40, PC 0.
The Bobcats were able to walk away with two runs of their
own late in the fourth quarter, however the Bulldogs seemed to have one last
trick up their sleeve before the game’s end. Thus far in the game, Red Boiling
Springs had a “no turnover” game, and with a 40-pt. lead, Bulldog
coaching staff sent their second string into the battle.
With Kason Wix as the quarterback, AJ Dale and the Bulldog
pack were able to placed the ball at the 5-yard line for a 1st and goal. Unable
to capitalize, the RBS boys set up for a field goal attempt from 14 yards out.
On a great fake-play, the football was guided into the arms of Matt French, who
ran to endzone for the score. Final score… RBS 47, PC 13.
Next Friday night, Red Boiling Springs plans to host Mount
Juliet Christian, with kick off set for 7 p.m.
