My View from the Press Box – DeKalb Co.

By  Tim Case

  The MCHS Tigers lose
another close one in the final moments this past Friday night.  The DeKalb County Tigers brought a 6-1 record
to Pat Parker Field along with an offense that was averaging 35 points a

  The 1st
quarter started out as a track meet as everyone expected with both teams
scoring twice.  Dallas Grace had a QB
sneak for a score and an 11yard TD pass to Jacob Salyer for another .  For DeKalb, Lucas Phillips had a 5 yard TD
run and Taylor returned a kickoff 91 yards for a TD to make the score 14-14 at
the end of the 1
st quarter.

  DC’s Taylor missed a
37 yard FG attempt early in the 2
nd quarter while Carson Cook also
missed a FG attempt from 36 yards out.
DC took the lead as Freeney scored on a 13 yard TD run with 2:08 to go
in the 2
nd quarter.  The Tigers
trailed at halftime 21-14.

  The 3rd
quarter was a defensive battle for both teams.
Cook hit a 29 yard field goal with :50 seconds left in the 3
as the Tigers trailed 21-17. Both high powered offenses seemed to stall.

  Early in the 4th
Taylor hit a 34 yard field goal to extend DCs’ lead to 24-17.  With 1:21 in the game, Chris Escamilla
recovered a Jessie Newberry fumble in the end zone for a TD.  The Tigers go for two and the lead.  Grace hit Salyer and the two point conversion
was good.  The Tigers took the lead
25-24.  With :10 seconds left in the game
Lucas Phillips QB sneaks the ball from the 26 yard line to set up a last second
field goal but instead goes untouched into the end zone to give DC the lead and
the win.

The Tigers fall to 3-4 on the season and have
to travel to White House this Friday night to face the Blue Devils who are 4-3
on the season and tied with the Tigers for 2nd place in the
district.  A win this Friday could put
the Tigers in sole possession of 2nd place in the district and keep
their playoff hopes alive.  Come out and
cheer the Tigers on to victory and “I’ll see you at the game.”
