MCHS Starts Conference Push with 2 Wins

Following the Christmas break, basketball teams from MCHS begin their District 9 AA push. This past week they faced Trousdale County and District rival Goodpasture.
On Tuesday January 3rd, Macon traveled to Hartsville to face the Yellow Jackets. The Tigerettes were able to jump out to a comfortable lead at the half of 33-14 despite the absence of two year starter Kailyn Brooks. Once again Coach Beam got to give some playing time to all of his bench players as MCHS cruised to a 59-25 victory.
Scoring for the Tigerettes were: Kelsey Gregory 8, Terra Pryor 8, Katie Reid 13, Katelyn Bean 3, Calamity Coley 11, Briley Driver 2, Reece Shrum 3, Alyssa Tuck 3, and Leah Anderson 8. Whitney Wilburn, Michaela Thompson, Macy Kemp, and Jade Ellis all played but did not score.
The Tigers also came ready to play. They held a 30-11 lead at the half behind the three point shooting of Manning and Grace as well as great defense from the rest of the team. In the end the Tigers coasted to a 49-34 victory.
Scoring for Macon were: Tyler Manning 11, Andrew Kempf 2, Trey McPherson 11, Dallas Grace 6, Brantley Russell 7, Dalton Shrum 9, and Aaron Carter 3. Tyler Clark, Dillon McCormick, and Peyton Clark all played but did not score.
On Friday Jan 6th the teams from Macon got their first taste of District 9AA competition as they traveled to Goodpasture. The Tigerettes enjoyed a four point lead at the break behind balanced scoring from everyone. MCHS was able to pull away at the end by a score of 76-56. This game marked the first time this season that 5 different players scored double figures, a good indicator that the team was very cohesive on this night.
Scoring were: Gregory 10, Brooks 10, Pryor 10, Reid 14, Coley 21, Bean, 4, Driver 4, Wilburn 2, and Tuck 1. Shrum, Thompson, Kemp, Ellis and Anderson all played but did not score.
The Tigers were set to take up where the Tigerettes left off. Grace went 6 of 10 and scored 14 first half points to help propel Macon to a 37-21 lead at the break. Goodpasture would keep fighting but the Tigers managed to keep their foot on the gas and claiming the victory by a score of 64-53.
Scoring for the Tigers were: Manning 7, Kempf 2, McPherson 8, Grace 24, Russell 8, Shrum 8, Carter 2, and T. Clark 5.
Macon hosts Greenbrier Tuesday night the 10th and travels to Sycamore on Friday the 13th for two more District 9 AA games.
