Tiger Runners Compete at Voyles Classic

The Macon County Cross Country teams competed in the first meet of the season for the Mid-State Cross Country Association.


The Voyles Classic was held on Saturday Aug 29th at Sharp Springs in Smyrna.

The meet was named for standout prep runner Markie Voyles. Voyles was a White County student who ran track and cross country for Macon County High School, winning state titles in both sports for the Tigers. Markie was killed in a tragic auto accident just before her graduation from White County High School.

There was a record 106 teams with over 1500 runners in both the boys and girls races. The Macon County girls team placed 32nd overall. Times and places were: Taylor Cox(43) 21:45, Krista Perkins(117) 24:09, Mallory Owens(190) 26:52, Sidney Bowman(263) 30:58, and Mei Waldrond(293) 35:21.

The Tigers placed 51st in the boys race. Their times and places were: Issac Wakefield(145) 19:05, Eric Davis(257) 21:15, Oliver Dyer(343) 24:03, Freedom Nash(350) 24:20, Wylie Dyer(365) 25:46, Dustin Gann(374) 26:32, and Ben Ellis(397) 32:03.
