Tigers win homecoming over Jets
The Macon County High School Tigers run their record to 2-2 with a homecoming win over Cumberland County by a final score of 15-0.
Macon set the tone on the first drive. Marching 80 yards in 10 plays they scored on an 11 yard run by Logan Whittemore. They ran the old water-bucket trick play and Curtis Oliver made the conversion to make the score 8-0 with 6:06 left in the 1st period.
Both teams settled down and traded possessions. The Jets attempted a 47 yard field goal with 21 seconds left in the half that was short. The Tigers were then able to march down the field and they missed a 32 yard field goal as time expired in the half.
Midway through the 3rd period you had the feeling that momentum might be shifting as the Jets went on a 12 play drive that consumed seven and a half minutes. However the drive ended in another unsuccessful field goal. After a Macon 3-and-out, the Jets would go on another 11 play drive that again took over seven and a half minutes. Once again the drive ended in a third missed field goal.
On only their second possession of the entire second half the Tigers went on a 17 play 80 yard drive that effectively ran out the clock. Noah Likens scored on a 2 yard run with 18 seconds left in the game. Ryan Underwood made the PAT and your final score was Macon 15 Cumberland County 0.
Rushing in the game was: Ethan Jenkins 96 yards on 12 carries, Logan Whittemore 65 yards on 12 carries and a TD, Isaac Belton 7 carries for 42 yards, Noah Likens 5 carries for 12 yards and a TD, and Cameron Houston 1 carry for 12 yards. Jon Mark Gammons was 2 of 6 passing for 56 yards and 1 INT. Chris Oliver had 1 catch for 49 yards and Belton had 1 catch for 7 yards. Belton (10) also led all defenders in tackles followed by Chris Oliver (6), Logan Malotte (6), and Jessie Holland (6).
Next week the Tigers will go on the road to meet the Trousdale County Yellow Jackets on the Creekbank. Kick-off is scheduled for 7 pm.
