Traffic Stop Leads to Meth Arrest

A 30-year-old Lafayette man is being held on $75,000 bond after a traffic stop led authorities to the discovery of approximately 20.5 grams of methamphetamine.

According to the affidavit of complaint filed by Macon County Deputy Josh Meador, the officer was in his patrol vehicle on June 26, on Scottsville Rd., when he observed a gray Mitsubishi Eclipse with a loud exhaust. 

Deputy Meador got behind the vehicle and ran the tag, which came back to a black Honda Civic. 

The officer made a traffic stop on the vehicle and identified the driver as George Hale, Jr. A female, identified as Rebecca Daughtery, and a male, identified as Steven Jones Jr., were also in the car. It was confirmed that Mr. Jones had an active warrant for possession of methamphetamine.

Deputy Tim Freeman arrived on the scene at that time, and Jones was placed into custody. 

Mr. Hale was asked if any illegal drugs were inside the car, and he did confirm there were drugs on the driver’s side floor, inside a back pouch. Hale advised the substance was methamphetamine. 

The black pouch was located, and inside was a plastic bag containing approximately 20.5 grams of a crystallized substance. There was also a set of digital scales found on the floorboard. 

Mr. Hale claimed ownership of the drugs, and he was placed into custody. He was charged with manufacture/delivery/possession of methamphetamine. His bond was set at $75,000, and he is scheduled to appear in general sessions court on July 28, 2021.
