Tigers drop first game to Upperman
The Macon County Tigers lost their first game of the season to the defending Region 4-4A champion Upperman Bees.
The Tigers scored on their first possession of the game. Gabe Borders ran it in from 45 yards on a 4th and 5 play. Bryson Higgins made the point after and Macon led 7-0 with 9:34 left in the first period.
Upperman would then score 21 unanswered points in the second quarter and their defense would not give-up another first down to the Tigers in the half. At the break Upperman led 21-7.
The Bees would score a 69 yard touchdown run midway through the 3rd quarter to lead 28-7. With 1:28 left in the game Tiger Kyle Shockley hit Hayden Wix for an 81 yard touchdown pass. Higgins made the PAT and the final score was Upperman 28 Macon 14.
For the game Shockley was 5 of 12 for 122 yards passing with one score and two interceptions and he rushed nine times for 31 yards. Borders ran 15 times for 83 yards and a touchdown, Braden Warren ran five times for six yards, Nate Green ran two times for five yards, and Braylon Flowers ran once for one yard. Wix had two catches for 87 yards and a touchdown, Borders had one catch for five yards, Tyler Gregory had one for one, and Flowers had one for three.
Mason Swindle led the defense with seven tackles. Riley Bolton, Luke Gammon, Tyler Gregory, and Levin Elmore had six while Jo Jo Scott had five.
With the region loss it sets up a big game next week as the Tigers will travel to Crossville to face undefeated region foe Stone Memorial. Kick-off is scheduled for 7 pm CST.
