Macon County opens basketball season


The Macon County High School basketball season got underway with Hall of Fame games played in Lafayette on Tuesday Nov 15th.

The Tigerettes faced off against Clarkrange in the first game. The Lady Buffaloes jumped out to an early lead with a stiff full-court press against the Tigerettes which led to many of the games 22 Macon turnovers. Clarkrange led 26-13 at halftime.

The Tigerettes simply just couldn’t make a dent in the Lady Buffalo lead. Clarkrange would simply cruise to a 52-30 win over the Tigerettes.

Scoring for Macon was: Karly Ramsey 12, Cadence Carter 7, Natalie Green 5, Allie Thompson 5, and Ashlyn Phelps 1. Kaylee Slayton, Katie Shockley, Alexis Bandy, Taylor Green, Grace Deckart, Chloe Solomon, and Kaydence Walrond all played but did not score.

Next the boys would also face Clarkrange. This was a really good high school basketball game. The Buffaloes jumped out to a lead at the end of the first quarter with both teams showing early season rust. However Macon would go on a run and lead 18-12 at the break.

The Tigers would settle in to a good second half shooting 3 of 7 and 4 of 5 in the final two periods. In addition Macon would make just enough of their free throws to seal the win. Macon gets the victory by a final score of 40-27.

Scoring was: John Krantz 11, Brady Driver 12, Cason Gregory 7, Dalton Hudson 6, Logan Bandy 3, and Braylon Flowers 1. Correy Shrum played but did not score.

The Tigerettes played a second game against Cannon County, who beat Clarkrange. Trailing by two heading into the final quarter Macon would lose by five 52-47.

The Tigers would play the final game of the evening against Cannon County. The Tigers came up just short 42-41.

The regular season is set to begin on Nov 22nd as Macon will travel to Gordonsville. Tip-off for the first game is scheduled for 6 pm.
