Bill Speck

Billie “Bill” Gray Speck, age 93 of Lafayette, TN passed away Friday morning, April 3, 2026 Knollwood Manor.
Funeral Services for Billie “Bill” Gray Speck were conducted Tuesday morning, April 7, 2026 at 11:00 am from the First Baptist Church of Lafayette with Pastor Ron Mathis officiating. Interment followed in the Anderson & Son Memorial Park. Keelan Milligan, Loyd Milligan, Mike Speck, Kenny Speck, Jim Ray, Doug Pierson, Robert Lewis Verble, & Ben Bray served as pallbearers.
Billie “Bill” Gray Speck was born July 31, 1932 in the Hillham Community in Overton County, a son born to the late Joe & Janie (Ledbetter) Speck. He was united in marriage to Elizabeth “Liz” Ray Speck on January 18, 1958, beginning a lifelong partnership filled with love and devotion. They shared many cherished years together, building a life grounded in family and commitment. Liz preceded him in death on April 22, 2022, leaving behind a legacy of warmth and treasured memories.
In addition to his wife and parents, she was also preceded in death by son, Steve Speck; sister, Ann Norris; brothers, Othel, Estes, Odis & Willie Pierce Speck; sister-in-law, Doris Milligan & husband, Richard.
He moved here from Livingston on June 1, 1960 and took over WEEN Radio where he owned and operated for 41 years. He became a deacon at First Baptist Church in Lafayette in December of 1960 where he still remained active. All throughout his life in Macon County, he was active in setting up benefits and helping the community. He enjoyed coaching baseball and softball and covering football and basketball games. He was always proud and honored to help out in the community wherever the need was. His most important job on this earth even above being a husband and father was personal relationship with is Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
He led his life by example, not by words. Jesus Christ was always first in his life and if you were around him, it only took a few moments for you to see that. He was the true definition of a family man. He loved his family with everything in him. His grandchildren and new great-grandson were the apple of his eye. He as proud and honored to be their “Poppa”.
He was a true man of God in every way. His legacy left will remain even though is job here is done. He left a never-ending impact on many and it will never be forgotten. There has never been but one perfect man to walk this earth, but Bill Speck would have been a close second.
Survivors include: Daughter, Stacye Collins and husband Tim; Granddaughter, Brooke Oglesby and husband John; Grandson, Trenton Collins and companion Jenna Meador all of Lafayette; Great-Grandson, Tatum Gray Oglesby; Brother Grady Speck and wife Doris of Michigan; Brothers-in-law, Jim Ray and wife Jane of Monterey, Robert Ray and wife Carol of Michigan; Several Nieces and Nephews.
