Carol Draper

Carol Aucoin Harris Draper was born on August 2, 1937, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, to the late Lawrence A. and Mary Poirrier Aucoin. One of five children, Carol grew up in a loving household that helped shape the strong, compassionate woman she would become.
After graduating high school, Carol attended Louisiana State University. On October 17, 1953, she married James A. Harris III. Their time together was filled with devotion and family until his passing on February 28, 1972. Though her heart knew loss early, Carol’s resilience and faith guided her forward.
In time, she met Dewey “Red” Draper. They married on April 4, 1975, and shared a life of companionship and laughter until his passing on December 22, 1987. Later, Carol found lasting friendship and support in Mr. Robert E. Herod. While they never married, their bond was deep and enduring, and they remained devoted companions for twenty-eight years until his passing on January 30, 2018.
Along with her parents, husbands, and dear companion, Carol was also preceded in death by her Daughters, Christine Harris Ellison and Rebecca Kaye Harris Gibson; Brother, Lawrence and Eva Aucoin; Sister, Virginia Miller; and Father and Mother-in-law, James A., Jr. and Charla Alexander Harris.
Faith was a cornerstone of Carol’s life. As an active member of Lafayette United Methodist Church, she poured her heart into the Prayer Shawl Ministry, offering comfort, warmth, and hope to countless individuals through her hands and her generosity of spirit. Carol also dedicated many years of service to the Lafayette Housing Authority, where she worked as The Occupancy Manager. She retired in June 2008, leaving behind a legacy of professionalism and genuine care for the people she served. In her spare time, Carol found joy in simple, meaningful pleasures. She loved crochet and knitting. Carol was an avid reader and enjoyed working through crossword and jigsaw puzzles, always keeping her mind sharp and curious. Carol also enjoyed a good game of dominoes, especially when shared with friends and family.
Throughout her life, Carol embodied grace, strength, and devotion – qualities reflected in the relationships she nurtured, the community she supported, and the love she gave so freely. Her story is one of perseverance, faith, and a heart that never stopped giving.
