Dorothy Doss

Dorothy Dean Harp Doss, age eighty-two, of Lafayette, TN, passed away peacefully on the morning of Wednesday, April 1, 2026, surrounded by her loving family at Knollwood Manor in Lafayette.

Born
on October 8, 1943, in her grandparents’ home in the Union Hill Community of Clay County, TN, Dorothy was the cherished only child of the late Edd and Estelle Harp. She spent her childhood surrounded by the warmth of her extended family, learning from her beloved grandparents Finis and Leatha Cherry and Sib and Ollie Harp. Her red hair and blue eyes were matched by a vibrant spirit that brought joy to all who knew her.

On June 11, 1960, Dorothy married Delton Ray Doss, with whom she shared fifty-seven wonderful years of marriage until his passing. Together, they built a life centered on faith, family, and love as devoted members of the Lafayette Church of Christ.

They raised three sons and delighted in traveling to all fifty states, creating countless cherished memories with their family. Dorothy was known for her generosity and kindness. She never met a stranger and expressed her love through acts of service, especially sharing delicious homecooked meals with family, friends, and those in need. She retired from the United States Postal Service and also enjoyed a successful career in real estate.

She is survived by her sons, Anthony “Tony” Ray Doss of Lafayette, Barry Lynn Doss (Martha) of Lafayette, and Jeffery Wayne Doss (Beth) of Temperance Hall; grandchildren, Kinsey Rae Emery (Jesse), Chelsea Brooke Rose (John), Katlyn Elizabeth Lawhon, Jacob Chapman Doss (Mary Lane), Elijah Riley Doss, and Lydia Mabry Wimsatt (Aaron); and great-grandchildren, Asher Emery, Guy Rose, Samuel Rose, Owen Lawhon, Ayla Lawhon, Will Lawhon, and Jase Doss.

Funeral services for Dorothy Doss were conducted on Saturday, April 4, 2026, from The Chapel of Alexander Funeral Home with Jesse Emery officiating. Interment followed in The Underwood Cemetery.
