Tiger baseball in busy week

The Macon County High Tiger baseball team had a busy week on the diamond. They managed to grab two wins in their four contests.

On Monday Apr 6 the Tigers traveled to Watertown for a district game. Macon simply couldn’t seem to string any hits together to manufacture any offense. Watertown scored runs in the first fourth and fifth to win the game 3-0.

Gunner was the pitcher of record and he threw six innings allowing six hits and two earned runs. The only hits in the game were from Jake Meador (2), Hayden Dean, and Matthew Wheeley.

The next day, Watertown made a return trip to Lafayette. The Tigers jumped on Watertown with four runs in the bottom of the first and never looked back. The Purple Tigers made a late run but Macon held on for a big 6-1 District win.

Wheeley went the distance on the mound hurling seven innings and scattering four hits and no earned runs with seven strike-outs. Dean was 2 for 2 with two runs scored, Emmerson McClard was 2 for 3 with a run, Gage Jones was 2 for 4, and Chase Keene was also 2 for 2. Ty Bilbrey and Wheeley had the other two hits.

Macon County finished the week in Gainesboro at the Alex Cassetty Wood Bat Classic. They faced Clay County on Friday Apr 10. Macon jumped out to a 4-0 lead after two innings. Errors let the Bulldogs back in the game but Macon held on for a 4-3 win in a time-limited five inning game.

Ty Bilbrey got the win for the Tigers as he threw all five innings and scattered five hits with no earned runs and seven strike-outs. Meador, Dean, Jones, Keenan White and Carver all collected hits at the plate.

The Tigers then had a game against the Miners on Saturday Apr 11. Macon came from behind to tie the game as the time limit expired. So this game ended in a 4-4 tie.

Chase Keene took the mound for Macon and threw all four innings and allowed four hits and no earned runs. Wheeley and Carson Brawner had the only base hits for Macon.

Macon would finish the week with a game against Livingston Academy. Once again they jumped out to an early lead and played a good game. Macon wins the shutout by a final score of 4-0.

Carlisle got the win as he threw three and two-thirds innings and allowed only two hits and no earned runs. Keenan White got the save and threw one and one-third innings allowing no hits and no runs. McClard and Carver had the only hits in the game as the Wildcats had four defensive errors.

This week the Tigers will have another home-and-away district battle at DeKalb County on Apr 13, at home against DeKalb on Apr 14, at Friendship Christian on Apr 16, and then host Clay County on Apr 17.
