Tigers split with Murfreesboro Central Magnet
The Macon County Tiger baseball team split their first two district games of the season. They played a home-and-away contest against Murfreesboro Central Magnet.
The first game was on Monday Mar 23 in Murfreesboro. Central Magnet plated three runs in the first three innings and that was all they would need as they went on to win 4-1.
Eli Carver threw five and two-thirds innings and allowed three hits and three earned runs while striking out nine. Mason Bandy threw one-third of an inning and allowed one hit and no earned runs. The only hits for Macon were by Jake Meador, Emerson McClard, and Hunter Dean (2). Meador scored the lone run in the 5th inning.
Then on Tuesday Mar 24 Magnet came to Lafayette. Magnet jumped out to a 5-0 lead after three and a half innings but Macon scored three in the bottom of the 4th and two in the bottom of the 6th to tie the game. Then in the bottom of the 7th Gage Jones walked, Matthew Wheeley and Ty Bilbrey sacrificed him over to third before Chase Keene singled Jones home to win the exciting game 6-5.
Matthew Wheeley threw six and two-thirds innings and gave up six hits and four earned runs with four strike-outs. Roman Brawner threw one third of an inning and picked up the win. Carson Brawner and Carver both were 2 for 3 with Brawner collecting two RBIs. Meador, McClard, Jones, Bilbrey, and Keene collected the other hits.
On Thursday Mar 26 the Tigers hosted the Westmoreland Eagles. Macon scored in the bottom of the first, third and sixth innings on their way to a 7-0 shut-out win.
Gunner Carlisle was the pitcher of record and got the ‘W’ hurling six innings and allowing five hits and no earned runs with eight strike-outs. Keenan White threw one inning of relief and allowed one hit. Macon only had four hits in the game as Jones (2), Meador and Wheeley recorded them from the top of the line-up. The Eagles had five errors in the contest.
This week Macon is set to play in the Smokey Mountain Showdown on spring break. They will play Eagleton Career Academy on Apr 1, face William Blount on Apr 2, Greenback on Apr 3, and face Maryville on Apr 4.
