Where is your faith?

A preacher began his sermon by saying, “Brethren and sisters, here you are, coming to pray for rain. I’d just like to ask you one question. Where are your umbrellas?”

Today’s Americans, including some who have embraced Christianity, could very well be asked, “Where is your faith?”

I found the following little poem in my files (the author is unknown).

Doubt sees the obstacles –

Faith sees the way!

Doubt sees the darkest night –

Faith sees the day!

Doubt dreads to take a step –

Faith soars on high!

Doubt questions, “Who believes?”

Faith answers, “I.”

The above shows us the difference between doubt and faith. Some doubt whether America will survive as a nation. Well, that depends, doesn’t it? Here is the answer: “Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord…” (Psalm 33:12)

The psalmist didn’t say, “Blessed is the nation whose God is money.” Neither did he say, “Blessed is the nation whose God is pleasure.” And he didn’t say, in order to be politically correct in generations yet unborn, “Blessed is the nation whose God is Allah.” No, he said, and I believe it, “Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord.”

So will America be blessed and survive? She will if God is her Lord. In the full Biblical context to this passage, that nation is Israel, but the principle applies to every nation. America is declining because of her growing independence of God. Where is her faith?

“Righteousness exalteth a nation; but sin is a reproach to any people.” (Proverbs 14:34) When we fail to exalt God, then we automatically exalt sin, not righteousness. A return to God will get our communities, states and nation out of the messes we are in.

We can’t be neutral. A thing is right or it is wrong. There is no middle ground. To try to be neutral is to remove all hope of a better tomorrow. “The hottest places in hell are reserved for those who, in a period of moral crisis, maintains their neutrality.” –Dante

Then there are those who believe the church will fail, will actually disappear. I ask, where is their faith? Jesus said “… I will build my church; and the gates of hell will not prevail against it.” (Matthew 16:18)

The Hebrew writer wrote, “Wherefore we receive a kingdom (the church) which cannot be moved, let us have grace, whereby we may serve God acceptably with reverence and godly fear.” (Hebrews 12:28)

Surely the four foregoing passages should encourage all that the church will not fail, will not disappear and will be here until time is no more.

The problem with America and many who have espoused Christianity is a lack of faith. Where is your faith? Here is a timely question: “… When the Son of man cometh, shall he find faith on earth?” (Luke 18:8)

Faith being indispensable we, we need to learn how it is produced and what makes it grow.
