Macon Co. Spartans Defeat Raiders in Westmoreland Jamboree

The beautiful Saturday morning on August 28, 2010, was perfect playing weather for youth football players and cheerleaders participating in this year’s Peewee Football League.

Kicking off the 2010 upcoming fall games, Westmoreland hosted a Jamboree packed with six action packed games, spanning from 10:30 a.m. through 2:15 p.m.

The first youth football battle was between the Westmoreland Raiders and the Macon County Spartans.

Each game held two fifteen minute quarters, including a new rule change, which stated the two-point conversion would only count for one point, and the extra-point kick would count for two points. League coaches stated this change would hopefully encourage teams to attempt more extra-point kicks while in the Peewee league, which would give players much needed experience in the kicking game for the higher levels.

 

 

The Spartans took first possession during in the challenge, and was able to make it down to the 20 yard line, before turning the ball over to the host. Unwilling to let the Raiders pick up a new set of downs, the Spartans quickly regained control of the ball.

Macon County saw daylight on the very first play when Spartan Luke Texchaua advanced his run to the endzone, followed by a successful two-point conversion, for a 7-0 advantage.

 

Westmoreland was sacked in their tracks on the next few attempts by Malaki Loggins, Dillon McFerrin, Christopher “Rudy” Birchfield, Christopher Oliver, Luke Texchaua, I. Grant, and the Spartan defensive linemen, to force the Raiders to punt, with 30 seconds left in the game.

Resuming the second half of the contest, Macon County advanced to the 37 yard line, and on the next play, #5 Malaki Loggins (shown right) executed a 66-yard touchdown. Loggings achieved the conversion to now lead by a score of 14-0.

Westmoreland was unable to notch any points in the game and was defeated by Coach Joe Cross’ Macon County Spartans.
