RBS Bulldog Basketball

The past history between these two schools has the Red Boiling Springs Lady Bulldogs way ahead in wins and they had high hopes of adding to that record as they visited the Lady Jackets last Friday night, but Trousdale County would be the team that would take home the win 44-39.
The Lady Bulldogs have had trouble scoring points as of late and this night would be no different, but their defense would keep them in the game trailing only 11-9 after the first quarter. Katie Hix along with Mayson Burgener and Kristen Davis would each make a basket and Morgan Burgener had 3 points. The Lady Bulldogs kept this game close and managed to knot the score at half-time at 20 all. The second quarter the scoring would be split between Katie Hix and the Burgener girls.
The Lady Jackets came out in the third quarter with their full court pressure defense and the Lady Bulldogs would make some floor mistakes and the Lady Jackets found themselves ahead by 5 points at the end of the third quarter, 34-29.
The fourth quarter was a seesaw battle with both teams trading baskets, and the Lady Bulldogs could not close the gap as they got no closer than 6 points at any time in the quarter. The Lady Jackets would hit some big shots every time the Lady Bulldogs cut into the lead.
This was a big district win for Trousdale County but all is not lost because Trousdale County must pay Red Boiling Springs a visit on Tuesday Night February 7th, and that is also Senior night. You can expect a different game when they tangle on the Lady Bulldogs floor.
Lady Bulldogs Individual scoring for the game: Morgan Burgener-17 points, Katie Hix-11 points, Mayson Burgener-7 points, Kalisha Lynch-2 points and Kristen Davis 2 points.
Trousdale County Individual scoring for the game: Sydney Shoulders-13 points, Natalie Storey-11 points, Ashley Cornwell-9 points, Hannah -5 points, Paige Carr-3 points, Bailey Howell-2 points and Shelby Gregory with 1 point.
In Boys Action
The Red Boiling springs Bulldogs have had trouble getting out of the gate early, and their point production has been way down, and they have had to fight back from some serious deficits all year long. The Trousdale game was no different except being down only 5 points after the first quarter is not something these kids can not overcome. The Bulldogs did not play very good but once again, this game was within reach with the Bulldogs down by a score of 22-15. This game was still not out of reach. Thanks to David Williams 6 points and a 3 point basket by Matt Brockette and one by Erin Francis the Bulldogs had managed to stay close and have a shot to win this game in the second half.
Behind the shooting of David Williams, who scored 5 third quarter points as did Matt French, the Bulldogs were way out of sync on offense but their defense was keeping them in this game and they trailed by only 31-25 going into the fourth quarter.
The Yellow Jackets knocked down a pair of 3 pointers to start the quarter and the Bulldogs had now dug themselves a hole they could not overcome even though they played hard and their lack of success was not due to a lack of effort. The shots simply would not fall for the Bulldogs and Trousdale County took home the victory 46-33.
No Team is going to win many High School Basketball games by scoring only 33 points and no one knows this any better than Bulldog Coach Michael Owens. Coach Owens has not quit on these kids nor have the kids quit on their Coach so look for these kids to go back to practice and find a way to fight thru this bad streak of good shots not falling and find a good rhythm on offense. The defense is still there and so is the effort.

Trousdale County scoring: Dylan Hurst Jr.-18 points, Cody Sircy-13 points, Steven Tyrner-6 points, Heath Woodard-4 points, Christian Lauderdale-3 points and Mark Sanders with 2 points.
The Bulldogs now must play four straight games on the road starting with Friendship Christian tonight January 10th and then on to Clay County on Friday night.
