Macon Gets Four Quality District Wins
Macon County High runs it record to 3-0 in district play for both their boys and girls teams. This week they picked up victories over Greenbrier and Sycamore.
On Tuesday the 8th MCHS travelled to Greenbrier. The Tigerettes were way too much for the Lady Bobcats to handle as they led 56-16 at the half. The entire bench got in this game early as the Tigerettes coasted to a 78-27 win.
Scoring was: Kelsey Gregory 19, Kailyn Brooks 14, Terra Pryor 11, Briley Driver 6, Leah Anderson 7, Whitney Wilburn 7, Lyndsey Belton 6, Marisa Owens 3, and Kassidy Brooks 5. Reese Shrum and Jade Ellis played but did not score.
The Tigers had to play a bit harder. After finding themselves down 11-15 after one, the Tigers went on a short run to capture the lead 27-23 at the half. Tyler Clark went 3 of 4 from just this side of Portland to push Macon to a lead it would never lose. Final score MCHS 54 Greenbrier 40.
Scoring was: Aaron Carter 5, Trey McPherson 7, Peyton Clark 6, Dalton Shrum 13, Tyler Clark 12, Dillon McCormick 4, Justin Tucker 1, Austin McClard 3, and Daniel Gregory 3. Mayson Shrum played but did not score.
It was Basketball Homecoming on Friday night the 11th as Sycamore came to town. The Tigerettes jumped out to a 18-14 lead after one. Early on it was apparent that the officials were going to let them beat and bang. Six different Tigerettes scored in the second as they took a 39-16 lead at the half. Macon would play some really stingy defense, only allowing Sycamore six total points in the second half. Sophomore Guard Briley Driver required 11 stitches after diving for a loose ball and bouncing her head off the floor. Macon simply overpowere Sycamore and wins by a final of 64-22.
Scoring was: Gregory 10, Kailyn Brooks 13, Pryor 16, Driver 2, Anderson 6, Shrum 9, Wilburn 3, and Belton 5. Owens, Ellis, and Kassidy Brooks all played but did not score.
In a sweltering gym, the boys contest was close for only one quarter. The Tigers were simply the better team and they pushed out to a 35-22 lead at the break. As in the girls game, MCHS played some really good defense in the second half and allowed 2 points in the third and 9 in the fourth. MCHS picks up their third district win by a final score of 62-33.
Scoring was: Carter 2, Trey McPherson 10, P. Clark 5, D. Shrum 13, T. Clark 16, McCormick 4, Tucker 4, M. Shrum 3, and Perrigo 5. Hill, Carlisle, and Trace McPherson all played but did not score.
