Macon Junior High Wins CRC Basketball Tournament

The Macon County Junior High School Tigers and Tigerettes won the Cumberland Rim Conference Tournament on Saturday. The boys from Jim B. Satterfield Middle in Hartsville and the girls from Westmoreland finished second.

On Thursday the 10th the Junior Tigerettes faced the #3 seeded Jackson County. The Tigerettes had a relatively easy go of it. MCHS led 21-11 at the half. Coach Beam would be able to empty the bench and the Junior Tigerettes win by a final score of 41-15.

Scoring was: Paige Clark 13, Jenna Russell 4, Kyndal Bullington 5, Kinsley Green 4, Kammie Yates 5, Keeley Clariday 5, and Krista Perkins 3. Sarah Carter, Lucy Allen, Allie Dixon, Mallory Owens, and Mattie Goolsby all played but did not score.

On Saturday Macon would face the #1 seed Westmoreland Middle School. The Junior Tigerettes had lost both regular season contests against Westmoreland. Both teams came out a little tight but Westmoreland led 11-6 after one. Unable to score down low, Coach Beam tweeked his offense. In one consecutive stretch in the second, Paige Clark goes 5 of 6 from the charity stripe to give Macon a lead that it would never surrender. At the half MCJHS led 19-18. The young ladies from Westmoreland did not quit, as the Junior Tigerettes had to play well in the last half. However, Macon was able to hold on for the victory by a final score of 31-28. This was a really good junior high game to watch.

Scoring was: Clark 15, Russell 1, Bullington 10, Green 4, Yates 4, and Clariday 2. Carter and Allen played but did not score.

Named to the All-Tournament team from MCJHS was: Kyndal Bullington, Kinsley Green, Keeley Clariday, and Jenna Russell. Paige Clark was named MVP for the tournament. It is the seventh straight conference title for the Junior Tigerettes.

The Junior Tigers were the #1 seed and faced #4 seed RBS on Thursday. Macon came out hot and put up a 21-8 halftime lead. All the kids from Macon would be able to play as MCJHS defeats RBS by a final score of 51-19.

Scoring for Macon was: Kendrick Carter 6, Michael Ashburn 9, Seth Carlisle 15, Tyler Gann 4, Dawson Brawner 6, Heston King 2, Cayden Shrum 3, Chance Presley 2, Cole Carhahan 2, and Matt Young 2. Riley Phillips, Dylan Butler, and Bryson Smith played but did not score.

Scoring for RBS was: Elijah Byfield 6, Chase Long 3, Bailey Anderson 2, Michael Tirjin 1, Josh Tirjin 5, Justin Bergdorf 1, and John Russell 2. Cole Dzickiewicz, Dustin Bergdorf, Owen Morgan, Jordan Powell, Hunter Tuck, Jerad Hatcher,  and Jacob Williams all played but did not score.

The Junior Tigers would face Jim B. Satterfield in the boys final and it turned out to be a decent game for one half. The Junior Yellow Jackets came ready to play but Macon led 8-6 after one. The Tigers went on a little run and pushed out to a 16-10 lead at the half, but you didn’t sense at that point that the game was over. However, the Tigers came out roaring in the third and scored 14 points to put this game out of reach. Final score was MCJHS 46 JBS Middle 25.

Scoring for MCJHS was: Carter 12, Ashburn 4, Carlisle 8, Gann 5, Brawner 8, King 6, and Shrum 2. Presley, Phillips, Carnahan, Butler, Smith, and Young all played but did not score.

Scoring for JBS Middle was: Colton Gammons 2, Trace McGuire 9, Austin Ford 4, Braison Raney 4, Trysten McGuire 4, and Wiley Barton 2. Hunter Ford, Jacob Woodard, Logan Calhoun, and Tanner Lanom all played but did not score.

Named to the All-Tournament team were: RBS- Elijah Byfield and Chase Long, JBS Middle- Trace McGuire, Braison Raney, and Austin Ford, Macon – Kendrick Carter, Michael Ashburn, Tyler Gann, and Seth Carlisle. Dawson Brawner was named MVP of the Tournament.
