Macon County Softball Ends Season in Tournament

alt

The 2013 season came to an end this week for the MCHS Tigerettes at the District 9AA Tournament. Macon County was one game away from advancing to the region tournament.

Macon County came out firing against Goodpasture Christian Wednesday night as they were fighting for their play-off lives and a chance to move on to the region tournament. Goodpasture had previously beaten Macon Co. three times this season.

That didn’t at all intimidate the Tigerettes as they jumped to an early 1-0 lead in the 2nd inning after a Rachel Shrum RBI single. An Alyssa Tuck single, Rebecca Ballou sacrifice bunt, and a Clara Howser RBI in the 3rd, gave the Tigerettes a 2-0 lead.

Goodpasture rallied as they scored 1 run in the bottom of the 3rd on a Littlejohn hit and a Cartwright double. They tacked on 2 more runs in the 5th inning to take the lead 3-2. This score would remain 3-2 to set the stage for an epic 7th inning of softball!

In the top of the 7th with Macon Co. trailing by 1, Senior Sara Kittrell blasts a solo homerun to deep centerfield to tie the game at 3-3. Two batters later Jordan Shockley connects on a Mimi Cartwright pitch and launches another solo homerun over the left field fence as Macon Co. takes a 4-3 lead into the bottom of the 7th.

Cartwright led things off for Goodpasture with a base hit to right field. After a Hassell pop-up, a Morrow walk, and a Dycus ground ball out, the Cougars had runners at 2nd and 3rd with 2 outs. The Tigerettes were down to their last out with Hensley at the plate to try and win it for Goodpasture. She connects on a Chelsea Carter pitch driving the ball to center field. The hit scored the tying and winning runs for Goodpasture as they defeated the Macon Co. Tigerettes by a score of 5-4.

Macon Co. played a great game! They finished 3rd in the 9AA District Tournament. Congratulations to all the Seniors and we wish them all the best.
