Lady Bulldogs Blow Big Lead at Jackson County
The Red Boiling Springs Lady Bulldogs made the short trip to Jackson County last Monday night to take on the winless Lady Blue Devils in district 6A action.
The Lady Bulldogs carried a 10-5 lead into the bottom of the seventh inning but the Lady Blue Devils scored six unearned runs to claim a 11-10 victory and a stunned crowd just could not believe what they had just witnessed. The Lady Bulldogs committed five errors in the bottom of the seventh inning alone to allow five unearned runs to score with two outs.
The Lady Bulldogs got off to a good start scoring three runs in the top of the first inning as Trayley Dillard led off with a single and scored on a hit by Maribel Mireles. A double by Reyna Ruiz scored Mireles and Ruiz scored on a hit by Allison Deckard. The Lady Bulldogs would add five more runs in the fourth inning when Nautica Goolsby led off with a hit, followed by a hit by Emily Birdwell, followed by a double by Trayley Dillard that scored both Goolsby and Birdwell. Allison Deckard, Jasmine Pruitte, and Chole Kramer each got hits and all three scored on big hits by Kylie Birdwell and Natalia Gonzalez. Jackson County would start their comeback in the bottom of the fifth inning scoring three runs on two hits plus a walk and three errors by the Lady Bulldogs. The Lady Bulldogs would go to the bottom of the seventh inning with a five run lead only to see the Lady Blue Devils come roaring back to win this game 11-10.
Lady Bulldog pitcher Jasmine Pruitte had a great day on the mound striking out 10 and allowing only three walks. She deserves a lot better than the final results showed. The Lady Bulldogs will get their chance for a pay back when Jackson County visits the Dog Pound on April 25th. The Lady Bulldogs will return from spring break to face Clarkrange on April 8th.
Update on district standings: last Thursday night The Trousdale County Yellow Jackets made the short trip to take on the Gordonsville Lady Tigers. The Lady Jackets went into this game undefeated in district play but the Lady Tigers beat Trousdale County 6-3 and that puts Gordonsville, Red Boiling Springs, and Trousdale County all tied atop district 6A standings with all three teams sporting a 5-1 district record. A lot of softball left to play.
