Lady Bulldogs lose to Clay County

The Red Boiling Springs Lady Bulldogs softball team went into the district 6A tournament last week with high hopes and after a big win over Monterey those hopes were hyped up.

 

However Clay County sent the Lady Bulldogs home last Wednesday night with a 10-4 loss to a somber end to the season for Red Boiling Springs.

 Clay County jumped out to a quick three run lead in the top of the first inning only to see the Lady Bulldogs get two of those runs back. In the bottom of the first inning on a long home run off the bat of Allison Deckard, she scored Jasmine Pruitte who had singled to lead off the bottom of the first inning. Deckard’s blast cleared the centerfield fence by some 35 feet.

 The Lady Bulldogs just ran out of gas as both mental and physical mistakes cost them any chance to advance in the tournament. With this loss the Lady Bulldogs finished the season with a fourth place finish in regular season and the same in the district tournament Clay came back to add two unearned runs in the third and five runs in the top of the seventh to claim a 10-4 victory and will face Gordonsville on Thursday in a loser bracket final. Trousdale County remains the only unbeaten team after they beat Gordonsville in the winners bracket final on Wednesday night.

 The regionals start Monday and the district tournament must be finished by Sunday and with bad weather moving in that could be a problem. We wish Clay County, Gordonsville and Trousdale County good luck the rest of the tournament and the regional tournament.

The Lady Bulldogs lose six seniors off this year’s team so Coach Stacy Mims has to start rebuilding for next year. Coach Mims has done a good job this year despite some trying times.
