DeKalb County comes from behind to deeat Tigers
The DeKalb County Tigers came from behind at half-time to defeat Macon County in a game to guarantee the winner at least second place in the district.
That second place finish would have guaranteed a first round home play-off game.
The Tigers struck first with 1:02 left in the first period Cameron Houston scored on a 14 yard run around the right tackle. The extra point attempt by Ryan Underwood was no good and Macon led 6-0.
DeKalb would complete a long touchdown pass on busted coverage to score and tie the game with 5:55 left in the first half. Tiger defender Landon Colter would block a punt to give the Tigers the ball on the DeKalb 13 yard line. Quarterback Jon Mark Gammons would hit Cameron Mercer for the go-ahead score and Underwood’s PAT would give the Tigers the lead 13-6 at the break.
DeKalb would come out of halftime and make a few adjustments. Then DeKalb took over the game at the line-of-scrimmage on both sides of the ball. For the rest of the half Macon was unable to gain or sustain any offensive momentum, while DeKalb managed to score three more times. Final score was DeKalb County 26 Macon County 13.
For the game Gammons was 10 of 20 for 69 yards with one TD and one INT. Ethan Jenkins carried the ball 22 times for 108 yards and was 1 of 2 passing for four yards. Isaac Belton had eight carries for 16 yards while Cameron Houston had three carries for 16 yards and a TD. Belton led all receivers with two catches for 31 yards. Landon Whittemore had five catches for 16 yards and Cameron Mercer had two catches for 20 yards and a TD.
Linebacker Austin Robinson led all defenders with seven tackles followed by Levi Borders with six, and Logan Whittemore with five. Belton and Colter each had blocked punts.
With the loss, even if the Tigers can defeat Livingston in the final game of the season, the Tigers will most likely finish third in the district and be on the road for the first round of the play-offs.
Macon County will be back on the road with a trip to White County next Friday night. Kick-off is scheduled for 7 pm.
